The automatic height control provides continuous adjustment of a trimming shaft (2) for a trimming tool (3) removing the leaves from the root vegetable (4) and a cutting blade (13), for removing the head of the root vegetable, in dependence on the level of the vegetable leaf crown, detected by a sensor (12), positioned infront or behind the trimming shaft.
