The friction clutch is particularly for road vehicles and has a clutch housing (9) non-rotatably connected to a driven flywheel (13). In the housing is a pressure plate (3) activated by a pressure spring (4) supported on the clutch housing for pressing a clutch disc (6) provided with friction linings (11,12) onto the flywheel. The pressure spring on coupling exerts a varying pressure force on the pressure plate. A device (1) acts on the pressure plate, via which at least in the coupled state the force of the pressure plate is varied proportionally to that of the pressure spring.
