An extruder, having heat exchangers (3, 4) between itself (2) and the extrusion die, is new. Preferred Features: The heat exchangers comprise parallel connected static coolers. The heat exchangers are preceded by a filter (5) and succeeded by a melt pump (8). Each heat exchanger comprises a tubular cooler with a hollow casing, the melt being passed through the tube and a coolant being passed in the opposite direction through the casing. Baffle plates project into the melt flow.
