The telephone apparatus components are contained in stable plastics casings. At least the hygienically most exposed casing parts, such as the handset (1a) and keyboard (4) contain material with antibacterial action. The handset, keyboard, and top part (2) of apparatus overall casing (1) are coated with a cover layer of antibacterially effective material. Alternatively all those parts may be made of antibacterially effective material. The cover layer may be applied by paint spray, or during the shaping of such parts.
