The joining element (3) consists of two semi-circular shaped parts (3.1, 3.2) of which one is slightly longer and which are movable jointly at a rotation axis (3.5). A vertical bar (leg of table etc.) (2) is inserted into the circular opening (3.3) formed by the two parts (3.1, 3.2). Opposite the rotation axis (3.5) the element has a coupling area (3.6) with several holes (3.4) for the insertion of fixing devices belonging to the piece of furniture to be joined to the vertical bar (2).
