<p>A method and device for replacing quickly a pipe electrode for small-hole electric discharge machining to make a small hole in a work by electric discharge machining. To make replacement of a pipe electrode (1), an electrode magazine (5) containing an electrode guide (4) in which the pipe electrode (1) is accommodated is replaced by using means. In such a way, it is unnecessary to use a device for guiding the end of the pipe electrode at every replacement and to perform operations for the guide. The magazine (5) has a bracing guide (3) automatically disposed at the center between a collet chuck (2) and the electrode guide (4) in accordance with the consumption of the pipe electrode (1) by making use of the principle of pulley. Using the electrode magazine (5) enables the pipe electrode to be long and the pipe electrode (1) is not moved when the electrode magazine (5) is moved when replaced, enabling high-speed movement. A mechanism for maintaining the position taken by the pipe electrode (1) until then while the electrode magazine is removed from the electrode discharge machine and resuming the electric discharge from the position after the electrode magazine (5) is attached again to the electrode discharge machine.</p> |
