Adsorption occurs at a given region and temperature. Desorption occurs at another, separate region and temperature. Only preferentially-adsorbed components cross from the first to the second region. An Independent claim is also included for a separator for the above process. Preferred Features: The mixture comprises gases and/or vapors. The absorber (10) is panel- or tube shaped. Material transport through the absorber is diffusive and/or convective. Its pores or gaps have such mean effective dimensions that adsorbate transport by pore-, gap- and/or Knudsen diffusion is possible. The adsorbent is activated carbon, especially sintered, with density preferably 0.6-1.2 g/l and porosity of 30%-60%. First and second regions have gas-tight separation preventing macroscopic flow between them. Only for the preferentially-adsorbed component is a permeable separation present, this being provided only by the adsorbent. A temperature gradient is applied, with temperature increasing from the first to the second region. The second region is heated, permanently or frequently. Activated carbon packing contacts the adsorbent, pressed against it.
|
