The safety device has an object detector (S1) for detecting objects in the vehicle's path, a contact probability estimator (M1), an automatic braking system (M2), an airbag that is inflated if a collision occurs, a safety belt, a safety belt wearing state detector (S3) and an airbag inflation probability evaluation device (M3). The evaluation device estimates the probability of airbag inflation during automatic braking. The automatic braking force is altered based on the seat belt detection result and the probability of airbag inflation.
