<p>A battery separator (10) for use in flooded cell type lead acid batteries comprising a backweb (20) of a porous acid resistant, embossable material with a plurality of major ribs (14a) and submini-ribs (15, 16) extending accross the width of the backweb (20) from at least one planar surface (12, 13) of the backweb (20). The submini-ribs (15, 16) extend in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the backweb (20). The major ribs (14a) extend in a direction that is diagonal to the longitudinal axis of the backweb (20). Each major rib (14a) is an embossed corrugated structure comprised of alternating ridges and furrows (22a, b and c, 23a, b, and c, 24a, b and c, 25a, b and c). The separator (10) is particularly useful in a flooded type lead acid battery having tubular plates.</p> |
