An article carrier (12) adapted to be installed on the hitch of a motor vehicle that will not interfere with the rear door tail gates or hatches at the rear of the vehicle and will stow out of the way while operating the vehicle. The carrier has a pivot tube (25) rotatably mounted on a rear portion (18) of a hitch mount (13) that rotates from a locked up position down about 90 degrees either right or left to be substantially parallel to the bumper and is arranged to be locked in the side down position as well as to pivot down and away from the door to a rear down position and is arranged to be locked in the rear down position. |
