PURPOSE: The titled hemostatic gauze using water soluble cellulose ether is provided which is free from fear of causing pain to a patient or disinfection caused by tissue destruction of the portion of coagulated blood as well as helping quick hemostasis by absorption of blood and formation of gel. CONSTITUTION: A cellulose fabric is soaked in a sodium hydroxide or ethanol solution. Thereafter, monochloro acetic acid is added to the cellulose fabric and refluxed and the refluxed fabric is neutralized with chloric acid. The gauze can be used as various bandages, gauze of disposable bandages, sanitary napkins or the like requested for hemostasis.
