PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method is provided to lubricating a glass fiber strand winding apparatus and using a split roller bail assembly to produce cylindrical packages having square edges. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus is provided a method for winding a mineral fiber strand to build a package. A moving strand is provided and a size is applied to the strand. A collet is rotated to wind the strand and build a package. The strand is reciprocated with a strand reciprocator to lay the strand in a pattern on the package surface as the package rotates. The strand reciprocator is lubricated with a lubricant which is compatible with the size. The lubricant is a constituent of the size. Since the lubricant is compatible with the size, it will not interfere with any products made from the strand.
