PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an oxirane compound in high yield and high selectivity by reacting an olefin type compound with ethylbenzene hydroperoxide in the presence of a titanium-containing silicon oxide catalyst. SOLUTION: An olefin type compound and ethylbenzene hydroperoxide are reacted in the presence of a catalyst comprising a titanium-containing silicon oxide, and satisfying the following all conditions: (1) having >=10 Å average pore diameter; (2) having pores in the proportion of >=90%, having 5-200 Åpore diameter based on the all pore volume; (3) having >=0.2 cm3/g specific pore volume; (4) obtained by using a quarternary ammonium ion of the general formula, [NR1R2R3R4]+ (wherein, R1 is a 2-36C linear or branched hydrocarbon group; R2 to R4 are each a 1-6C alkyl group) as a template, and removing the template by a baking operation thereafter; (5) having no peak showing d spacing in the X-ray diffraction. |
