PRODUCTION OF ACETYLATED CELLULOSE NITRATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely and inexpensively producing acetylated cellulose nitrate by not using expensive cellulose nitrate wetted with alcohol but using moist cellulose nitrate more inexpensive than it. SOLUTION: A moist cellulose nitrate is dehydrated in the presence of a nonsolvent for cellulose nitrate except alcohols and treated with an acetylating agent to produce acetylated cellulose nitrate. A first dehydration method comprises using the nonsolvent for cellulose nitrate except alcohols as a dispersion medium and dispersing moist cellulose nitrate into the dispersing medium and dehydrating the moist cellulose nitrate by distillation. A second dehydration method comprises using the nonsolvent for cellulose nitrate except alcohols as a substituting agent, adding the substituting agent to moist cellulose nitrate and dehydrating the moist nitrate by filtration. The moist cellulose nitrate can be safely dehydrated by either method.
