PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject new compound capable of being obtained under a mild condition in high yield by using a raw material easily available as an industrial raw material, and useful as an insecticidal agent or a microbicidal agent for agriculture or horticulture, or antimicrobial agent for medical care. SOLUTION: This new compound is a 1,3-thiazine derivative or a 1,3- selenazine derivative of formula I (X is S or Se; R is H, an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkynyl, an aryl, a substituted phenyl, an alkoxy, an acyl or the like; R1 is H, hydroxy, an alkoxy, an alkenyloxy or the like; and R2 to R6 are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl an alkynyl, an aryl or the like), e.g. 4-hydroxy-4- methyl-2-(4-methylphenyl)-4H-5,6-dihydro-1,3-selenazine. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a thioamide or a selenoamide of formula II (e.g. 4- methylselenobenzamide) with anα,β-unsaturated ketones (e.g. methyl ethyl ketone) in the presence of a catalyst.
