PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve appearance of a detergent and comfortability in use by incorporating a sterol derivative. SOLUTION: The objective detergent composition contains a sterol derivative represented by the formula. In the formula, R1 and R2 are the same or different, and are each a residue formed by removing a hydrogen atom from a hydroxyl group of a natural sterol having one hydroxyl group or a hydrogenated product thereof; (m) and (r) are each a number of 0-20; and X is a 1-40C divalent linear or branched saturated hydrocarbyl group, a 28C divalent hydrocarbyl group having an unsaturated bond or a 60C divalent hydrocarbyl group having a saturated cyclic structure. R1 and R2 are each preferably a residue formed by removing a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl group of cholesterol, stigmasterol, lanosterol, ergosterol or citrosterol. The compounded amount of the sterol derivative in the detergent composition is preferably 0.01-3.0 wt.% based on the whole composition. Incorporation of the sterol derivative in a glass state into the detergent composition is preferable from the view point of stability.
