PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transparent gel composition having excellent deodorizing effect on an alkali offensive odor substance and a malodor such as an acid smell, etc., by mixing a poly(N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide) resin with water and an acid. SOLUTION: This deodorant comprises a transparent gel composition which is obtained by mixing 2-10 wt.% of an N-vinylcarboxylic acid amide such as N-vinylacetamide homopolymer and/or copolymer, etc., with 10-97 wt.% of water and 0.01-5 wt.% of an acid such as a mineral acid, e.g. sulfuric acid, etc., and an organic acid, e.g. citric acid, etc., and has pH 1-5, preferably pH 1-3.
