PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a person on a wheelchair from feeling anxiety and to eliminate the danger of backward fall by supporting lower end parts at the both handle frame sides of a carriage mechanism at the both side of a seat part mechanism so as to be freely and vertically slidable and also respectively connecting the front legs of the carriage mechanism to the seat frame of the seat part mechanism by means of links. SOLUTION: When a step exists, the lower end of a support frame 19 in the rear end part of the seat frame 16 in the seat part mechanism 3 is grounded and, besides, a helper pushes down the handle frame 6 of the carriage mechanism 2 by hand. Then the lower end parts of the handle frames 6 are slid downward through through-holes 26 in the both side rear end parts of the seat frame 16. The handle frames 6, the leg fitting brackets 7, the front legs 8 and rear legs 9 of the carriage mechanism 2 are turned forward as a whole and the mechanism 2 is inclined backward. That is, rear wheels 13 are rolled forward while they are grounded and front wheels 10 are raised forward and upward. In this case, the links 24 connecting the both front end parts of the seat frame 16 to the middle part of the front legs 8 are turned forward with the fulcrum at the side of the seat frame 16 as a center and the seat mechanism 3 is not so much inclined against the inclination of the carriage mechanism 2.
