PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper which can delay rotational action by certainly exhibiting braking force in the case that closing action is performed after a rotating cover is slightly opened. SOLUTION: A spring member 7 is arranged between a vane member 4 having a notch 4d in its end surface 4c and a vane cover 5 formed into an approximately L-shaped flat surface having a circular arc part 52 and a radial part 51 and covering at least the end surface 4c of the vane member 4. Thereby, the radial part 51 of the vane cover 5 arranged along a side surface 4e on the braking force exhibiting direction side of the vane member 4 is energized in a direction that it is tightly stuck to the side surface 4e on the braking force exhibiting direction side of the vane member 4 so as to be tightly stuck thereto, and when a rotary shaft 3 is rotated in a braking force non-exhibiting direction (counterclockwise direction in figure), the spring member 7 is deformed by pressure of viscous liquid 8 in the inside of a liquid chamber 22, and the radial part 51 of the vane cover 5 is separated from the side surface 4e on the braking force exhibiting direction side of the vane member 4.
