PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain and prevent the thermal deformation of warp, etc., generated in a cooling process of a cast billet having <=250 mm square. SOLUTION: The surface temp. of the cast billet is cooled to <=600 deg.C when the cast billet is brought into mutual contact with the other cast billet during carrying out. Further, during carrying when the cast billet surface temp. does not is at <=600 deg.C, the mutually adjacent cast billets are carried while separating to >=500 mm in the distance between the centers thereof. In this way, the temp. difference generated at both side surfaces of the cast billets 7 is reduced and thus, the plastic deformation caused by the heat is restrained and prevented. Further, the interval between the cast billets 7 during carrying, is adjusted in the range of >=500 mm while detecting the surface temp. of the cast billet with a thermometer so as to secure the carrying course of the cast billets needing the necessary time that the surface temp. of the cast billet becomes <=600 deg.C till cast billets 7 are brought contact with each other during carrying.
