PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a thin austenitic stailess steel sheet without having minute rugged parts on the surface and excellent in resistance to pocket wave from a thin cast billet which is continuously cast. SOLUTION: After casting the thin cast billet of <=8 mm thick and executing cold rolling of >=10% in the total draft to the thin cast billet, the billet is annealed at a temp. in the range of 1000-1150 deg.C for 1-8 min. After pickling, the cold rolling of >=50% in the total draft is executed and, next, after annealing the billet at a temp. in the range of 1000-1150 deg.C for 1-8 min, pickling is executed.
