PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breakwater capable of making seawater of the open sea side into the inland sea side without transmitting ocean waves of the open sea side to the inland sea side. SOLUTION: The breakwater has a water storage section 4A having a front wall 6A, which is installed at the upper section of a breakwater body 2A and in which top-end height is made higher than a seawater surface of the open-sea side, on a front and a water pipe 5A1, etc., communicating the water storage section 4A and the inland sea side. A wave phenomenon of the open sea side periodically overflows the front wall 6A and seawater of the open sea side is flowed into the water storage section 4A while sea water stored in the water storage section 4A is made to flow into the inland sea side through a water pipe 5A1, etc. in response to head difference with a seawater surface, an inclined plane section 3A inclined in the direction that a wave overflow to the water storage section 4A is assisted is formed to an upper section of the open sea side of the front wall 6A, a rear wall 7A is mounted on the rear upper section of the water storage section 4A, and the top-end height of the rear wall 7A is set at a value higher than that of the front wall 6A. Accordingly, direct reaching to the inland sea side of waves overflowing on the front wall 6A is prevented.
