PURPOSE: A CDMA power control method for paging and initial traffic channel power is provided to dynamically determine optimum initial channel power in accordance with present forward link loading and the strength of received pilot signals. CONSTITUTION: A CDMA power control method for paging and initial traffic channel power comprises a step transferring a pilot signal to a mobile station of a telecommunication system, a step determining optimum paging channel power in accordance with the strength of the received pilot signal, and a step transferring a paging message to the mobile station through a paging channel in the optimum paging channel power. The determination step further comprises a step determining optimum paging channel power in accordance with the strength of the pilot signal and forward loading being the ratio of present transfer power to maximum transfer power.
