PURPOSE: An apparatus for connecting a private branch exchange to an ATM network is provided to generate an ATM cell in a private branch exchange by installing a control unit having an ATM switch inside the private branch exchange. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for connecting a private branch exchange to an ATM network comprises an interface unit(110) and a control unit(130). The interface unit receives a traffic frame from a switch of a private branch exchange and converts the received traffic frame to an ATM cell. The control unit switches the converted ATM cell, provides a system control clock, and performs a management and a maintenance of a system. The interface unit and the control unit are installed inside the private branch exchange. The interface unit comprises a T1/E1 board(112), a cell generator, and a routing unit. The control unit comprises an ATM switch(132), ATM matching unit(134), a clock supply(136), and a management unit(138). |
