PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for preventing accumulation of chips for a crank shaft mirror to prevent accumulation of chips, generated during machining, in the pocket of a chuck. SOLUTION: In a crank shaft mirror wherein the two ends of a work 3 are fixed by a chuck 4 having a pocket 4a for conveying in and out the work and milling is applied on the work 3 by a rotating cutter, a cover 7 is removably arranged at the upper opening part of the pocket 4a in a manner to cover the upper opening part. A cover clamp means 13 to mount and demount the cover 7 during conveying in and out of the work 3 is arranged at an autoloader 10 to convey in and out the work 3 between the chucks 4. Since there is no need to open and close the cover 7 by the work 3, the cover 7 is prevented from early damage. This constitution eliminates a need for a troublesome exchange work for the cover 7 and machining of the work 3 is prevented from suspension due to an exchange work of the cover, whereby productivity is also improved.
