PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an excellent lubricating state between a camshaft and a bearing in an internal combustion engine provided with a cam phase variable device. SOLUTION: Semi-circumferential grooves 122, 132 constituting part of each of an advance angle pressure oil passage and a delay angle pressure oil passage for supplying pressure oil to an advance angle oil chamber and a delay angle oil chamber from an oil pump, respectively, are formed at the inner circumferential face of a locker cover side cam journal half portion 15a corresponding to a specific circumferential region in which a maximum load caused by power transmission to a power transmission member from a crankshaft cannot be exerted. With this configuration, the power can be transmitted from the crankshaft to the power transmission member via a power transmission element. Furthermore, the oil pressure is appropriately supplied to the advance angle oil chamber and the delay angle oil chamber in the cam phase variable mechanism to control the cam phase variable mechanism to achieve a desired cam phase.
