PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a binder composition which exhibits a permanently good releasability from a heating platen in board production and improves the system productivity by compounding a polyisocyanate compound, a low-mol.-wt. polyethylene having a specified density, and water. SOLUTION: This composition contains a polyisocyanate compound or its reaction product, preferably obtained from a polyisocyanate compound (e.g. polymeric MDI) and a monohydric alcohol (e.g. polyoxyethylene monoalcohol) containing 80-99 wt.% repeating units represented by -CH2CH2O-; a low-mol.-wt. PE having a density of 0.94-0.980 g/cm3 and a number average mol.wt. of preferably 500-7,000 in terms of monodisperse PS; and water. The wt. ratio of the polyisocyanate compound or its reaction product to the low-mol.-wt. PE is preferably set at (1/0.001)-(1/1). The composition is useful as the binder for producing a board from a lignocellulose material or an inorganic material.
