PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image with its toner image tip accurately matching to the tip of transfer paper by starting writing based on a signal detecting the tip of the transfer paper by a paper detecting sensor. SOLUTION: A paper detecting sensor S1 is provided along a paper feeding passage 40 downstream of a resist roller 44 and upstream of a transfer position B. The resist roller 44 abuts the tip of a transported transfer paper to stop it and re-feeds paper towards the transfer position B. The paper detecting sensor S1 detects the tip portion of the passing transfer paper. An exposure optical system 30 as a writing means starts writing based on a signal from the paper detecting sensor S1. In other words, when the transfer paper's tip detecting signal is inputted from the paper detecting sensor S1, a writing control portion performs a timing setting by calling out a predetermined writing starting timing, starts image exposure after timing-up, and controls the tip of the transfer paper so as to match to the tip of the image.
