PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the constitution of a condenser discharge type ignition device having an excessive rotation prevention function. SOLUTION: The thyristor S1 for exciter short circuit for short circuiting the output voltage of the exciter coil 4 when the charge voltage of the condenser 2 for ignition exceeds a limit value is provided between the condenser 2 for ignition and exciter coil 4 provided on the primary side of an ignition coil 1. The rotation speed of an engine is detected and a rotation speed detection circuit 13 for the generation of a trigger signal Vt is provided when the detected rotation speed exceeds a set value and the trigger signal Vt generated by the rotation speed detection circuit 13 is given to the thyrister S1 for the exciter short circuit. By making the thyrister S1 conductive when the rotation speed of the engine exceeds the set value, the ignition is stopped and it is prevented that the rotation speed of the engine exceeds the set value.
