PURPOSE: A composition preventing polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and a preparation method thereof are provided, which composition can be used as an urgent inhibitor during the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and is a liquid at a room temperature. CONSTITUTION: A composition comprises 30-60 wt% of one or more catechol derivatives, 20-60wt% of an aromatic solvent, and 10-30 wt% of an alcohol, and is a liquid in the range of a room temperature to -50°C. Preferably the composition comprises one ore catechol derivatives represented by the formula 1, an aromatic solvent which is selected from naphthalene, benzene and their mixture and is substituted with one or more alkyl groups, and an alcohol of the formula A-OH (A represents an alkyl or cycloalkyl group). In the formula 1, R1, R2, R3 and R4 represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group, and at least one substituent among R1, R2, R3 and R4 is a hydrogen atom. The composition is prepared by dissolving the catechol derivatives in the aromatic solvent; adding the alcohol into the solution; and optionally heating the mixture at a temperature of 50-60°C. |
