GENE CONFERRING DISEASE RESISTANCE IN PLANTS AND USES THEREOF

PURPOSE: Provided are genes conferring disease resistance in plants and the genes cloning into the plants. In particular, the genes having broad spectrum disease resistance to plant, are identified and isolated and the characteristics thereof are provided. CONSTITUTION: Provided are a location and characterization of a gene (designated NIM1)which is a key component of the SAR pathway and which in connection with chemical and biological inducers enables induction of SAR gene expression and broad spectrum disease resistance to plants. Provided are further plants transformed with the NIM1 gene as well as methods employing the gene to create the transgenic plants and employing the gene in a screening assay for compounds capable of inducing broad spectrum disease resistance in plants
