PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the safety function of a triangular guard plate provided at an intersection of a movable handrail of an escalator with a ceiling in a building. SOLUTION: In a safety device of an escalator in which a triangular guard plate 4 formed of a synthetic resin is arranged at an intersection of a movable handrail with a ceiling in a building, the triangular guard plate 4 is formed of a light-collecting synthetic resin member to which a fluorescent dye is added. Since the triangular guard plate 4 is formed of the synthetic resin member to which the fluorescent dye is added, the triangular guard plate 4 receives the electromagnetic radiation such as the ambient visible light or the ultraviolet ray, the fluorescent light from the fluorescent dye inside is collected and emitted from an end face 4a of the guard plate, and a passenger 6 in an ascending direction recognizes the bright fluorescent light to avoid the collision with the triangular guard plate 4 in advance.
