PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save space and to reduce cost, regarding a method or a device for delivering an article from an upstream transfer device to a downstream transfer device. SOLUTION: A relay device installed between an upstream transfer device A and a downstream transfer device runs continuously a plurality of receiving parts for receiving and holding cake pieces M in a loop and transfers the cake pieces M to the transfer device after receiving parts running along the transfer direction of the cake pieces M carried on the transfer device A approximately at almost the same speed. The receiving parts are made of freely expansible sucking pads 7 for sucking and receiving the cake pieces M. The sucking pads 7 passing on the transfer device A are contracted from an expanded state and returned to an expanded state to abut on the cake pieces M to suck them. At the time of transferring the cake pieces M on the transfer device, the sucking pads 7 are kept expanded for releasing sucking force.
