PURPOSE: An arrangement fr performing automatic build out in a communications system that support multiple constant-bit-rate connection is provided to define for each optical interface and to adjust the build out automatically so that the build out is equal to the amount of delay that was experienced in receiving the next ATM cell for the call in case an ATM cell is not received within the proper amount of time for a CBR call from the optical interface. CONSTITUTION: An ATM analyzer(100) receives ATM cells from a selective interface and converts data from these cells to calls of a constant bit rate(CBR). Build out designated in public is determined at each selective interface. If the ATM cell is not received within an appropriate time as to BBR call from the selective interface, the build out is adjusted automatically so that the build out is equal to the amount of delay when the next ATM cell is received. Actually, build out as to only individual call experiencing the delay of ATM cell is determined again. Other calls processed by selective interface are not affected by the automatic adjustment of the build out as to individual call. Furthermore, when the ATM cell is delayed as to a specific call, the information transmitted as to the call is the last PCM sample of the present ATM cell as to the call.
