PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart an ultraviolet shielding function to glass by the use of frit, and to easily obtain ultraviolet screening colorless transparent glass having improved colorlessness at a low cost by adding a decolorizer. SOLUTION: This frit for ultraviolet screening glass is obtained by adding 5-45 pts. of cesium oxide and 0.1-10 pts. of coke to 100 pts. of silica sand, melting the mixture, and then solidifying the melted mixture. The suitable addition of the coke as a reducing agent to the cesium-containing frit enables the oxidation-reduction degree of the frit to approach that of the base glass and further the inhibition of the change in the valency of the cesium. Thereby the foaming of the glass can be prevented. Erbium or selenium oxide may be added as a decolorizing agent. The erbium or selenium oxide is extremely stable, is hardly affected by the change in an atmosphere or an oxidizer such as cerium oxide, and can easily impart a desired effect.
