PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube comprising a convergence apparatus to correct convergence error without raster rotation or landing transition is provided so that the convergence apparatus can perform a high sensitive correction of convergence with a reduced consumption current. CONSTITUTION: A ring typed correction coil(5) generating a magnetic field is arranged apart from a deflection yoke, by installing the correction coil on a cathode part of a CMP(Convergence Purity Magnet)(4) provided on a neck part(2) of a color cathode ray tube(1). The correction of convergence error of R and G beam horizontal lines can be performed without generating landing transition or raster rotation, by using a magnetic field generated by supplying a correction current from a control circuit to the correction coil. Also, because the correction coil is arranged apart from a fluorescent screen(16), a large quantity of convergence correction can be assured on the fluorescent screen and the current supplied from the control circuit to the correction coil can be saved.
