PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus of high quality, capable of being operated by a plurality of operators, capable of controlling the operations by the operators, and a control method thereof. SOLUTION: The input head replacing command from a panel operation part 107 is delivered to an operation prohibiting preferential order control part 106 and the operation prohibiting preferential order thereof is inspected. When the operation prohibiting preferential order is high, a password command is issued. When an operator inputs a panel password, an operation prohibiting password collation part 105 collates the panel password with the password registered in an operation prohibiting password memory part 103. If the inputted password is correct, the head replacing command is delivered to a printer control part 111 and, even during printing, the reception of printing data is stopped at a good place to start head replacing start operation. Contrarily, if the password is incorrect, a control command is neglected.
