PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve low cost and excellent maintenance properties while obtaining uniform adhesion amt. distribution even if the size of a steel strip is altered in a coating apparatus for applying a coating soln. to a metal strip by a pair of rubber lining rolls arranged so as to hold the continuously running metal strip. SOLUTION: In a metal coating apparatus, a coating soln. 3 is applied to a metal strip 1 by a pair of rubber lining rolls 2 arranged so as to hold the continuously running metal strip 1. In this case, groove processing increasing the groove size of the end parts as compared with the central parts of the rolls is applied to the surfaces of the rubber lining rolls 2. By this constitution, uniform adhesion amt. distribution is obtained in a lateral direction with respect to steel strips having various sizes and the appearance inferiority caused by non-uniform adhesion amt. distribution or the lowering of quality caused by adhesion amt. shift can be prevented.
