PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a racemic compound or optically active compound of the subject compound in a high yield, by reacting the racemic compound or the optically active compound of a hydroxydifluorocarboxylic acid ester with a metal amide to form the racemic compound or optically active compound of the amide, and further reacting the formed amide with an organometallic compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing (A) a racemic compound or optically active compound of a compound of formula IV comprises reacting (A) the racemic compound or optically active compound of aβ-hydroxy-α,α- difluorocarboxylic acid ester of formula I (R is an aryl or the like; R1 is an alkyl or the like; C* is an asymmetric carbon) with (B) a metal amide of formula II (R2 is an alkyl or the like; R3 is an aryl or the like) preferably in tetrahydrofuran as a solvent at -100 to 100 deg.C to form (C) the racemic compound or the optically active compound of the amide of formula III, and then reacting the formed amide formula III with (D) an organometallic compound of the formula: R4M (R4 is an alkyl or the like; M is an alkaline earth metal halide or the like) at preferably -100 to 40 deg.C.
