FLAME RETARDANT POLYESTER RESIN COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide flame retardant polyester resin compositions flame-retarded without using halogen based flame retardants. SOLUTION: Flame retardant resin compositions comprise a polyester resin (e.g. a polybutylene terephthalate) and a flame retardant, and the flame retardant is composed of red phosphorus and a novolak resin. The average particle diameter of the red phosphorus is about 0.01-10μm. The flame retardant may be incorporated in an amount of 0.1-50 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. polyester resin. Further, the flame retardant may contain 10-100 pts.wt. red phosphorus based on 100 pts.wt. novolak resin.
