PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling stock brake mechanism of high reliability, capable of preventing wheel locks by compensating the necessary braking force in one axle unit by means of one brake unit even if the other brake unit has failed. SOLUTION: A rolling stock brake mechanism 1 fitted with a pair of right and left brake units 5, 7 on one axle 3 includes an electric actuator 9 fitted to each brake unit as the drive source of each brake unit and a controller 17 capable of controlling the brake units independently according to values detected by brake force sensors 11, 13 detecting the braking conditions of the brake units. If one of the brake units on the axle 3 fails, the braking force required is complemented by the other brake unit on the same axle.
