PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking device for a manhole cover which securely serves even if sludge or dust sticks thereto or the manhole is laid on a slope face. SOLUTION: This manhole cover is provided with a receive frame 2 made hollow in the inside, a manhole cover 1 closing the receive frame 2, one engaging part 21 formed at the inner periphery of the receive frame 2, an opening 11 for inserting a bar, formed on the manhole cover 1, and a locking member 51 rotatably attached to the manhole cover 1 and equipped with the other engaging part 32 connected to the engaging part 21 and a closing stopper 53 for the opening 11. The other locking part 32 formed at the locking member 51 is engaged with the engaging part 21 formed in the receive frame 2, and the locking member 51 is urged to the direction that the opening 11 for inserting the bar is closed by the closing stopper, by the pulling spring 52.
