PURPOSE: A process for cross-linking a thermoplastic polymer and a novel cross-linking system are provided which comprises peroxide compounds having a starting temperature applicable to a performance of the process. CONSTITUTION: A cross-linking system comprises a 1,2,4-trioxacycloheptane and across link-promoting polyfunctional ethylenically unsaturated compound. This system is employed in a process of cross-linking a thermoplastic polymer. Preferred polymers, useful in this process, include ethylene homopolymers and copolymers. The thermoplastic polymer contacts with the cross-linking system in a temperature range of about 150-350°C, thereby a thermosetting resin is produced.
