SOLUTION: Nitrogen-contg. waste water such as domestic waste water, factory waste water and sewage disposal waste water is brought into contact with microorganisms promoting the decomposition of nitrogen compds. and treated by this device. The device is provided with a nitration tank 11 for nitrifying the ammonia nitrogen in the waste water to nitrite or nitrate ions and a denitrification tank for converting the nitrite and nitrate ions in the waste water into nitrogen gas. The nitration tank 11 and denitrification tank have a microorganism carrier consisting of a porous material formed by sintering glass powder obtained by crushing waste glass.
