PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a belt hung between a based side pulley and a head side pulley from departure by equipping a belt pressing mechanism switchable applying and releasing of pressing force to generate tension between the base side pulley and the head side pulley by pressing the belt. SOLUTION: A belt pressing mechanism 32 equipped on the sewing machine head base side presses a belt 27 between a base side pulley 26 and a head side pulley 9a to generate tension. The belt pressing mechanism 32 drives the rotation of an arm 32b centering on a shaft 32a by the drive force of a rotary type fluid pressure cylinder, i.e., drive device 32d, and gives pressing force to the belt 27 from a roller 32c rotatablly equipped on the tip end of an arm 32b. When a sewing machine head 9 is lifted up, the belt 27 is applied by tension to prevent the belt 27 from departure from pulleys 26, 9a. When the sewing machine head 9 is lifted down, there is no fear of departure of the belt 27 because the tension of the belt 27 is kept by the distance between pulleys 26, 9a.
