PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for carrying out antimicrobial and antifungal finishing of fibers by which a fiber product capable of preventing nosocomial infection or the like is obtained by treating the fibers by using a specific pyrithione complex to carry out the antibacterial and antifungal finishing of the fibers efficiently and to improve the safety of the fibers. SOLUTION: Fibers such as a polyester fiber are dipped in an aqueous dispersion of a compound of a pyrithione complex represented by the formula (M is a divalent metal atom) and the dipped fibers are heat-treated under pressure at 110-160 deg.C. In other method the aqueous dispersion of the compound of the formula is impregnated in the fibers, and the impregnated fibers are subjected to the heat treatment at 110-230 deg.C to carrying out the antibacterial and antifungal finishing. Preferably, an oxidizing agent or a reducing agent is added to the waste liquid discharged after applying the liquid to the antimicrobial and antifungal finishing, to degrade the compound of the formula, or the compound is aggregated, sedimented and separated by using a polychelating agent or a polymeric coagulating agent. |
