PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new benzotriazole compound having low sublimability, excellent in heat resistance and weatherability, having a wide ultraviolet absorbing range and useful as an ultraviolet absorbent useful for preventing plastics, synthetic rubbers or the like from being degraded due to ultraviolet light or the like. SOLUTION: This new compound is a benzotriazole derivative of formula I (wherein, R1 and R2 are each unsubstituted or halogen-, hydroxyl-, alkyl- or alkoxyl one-substituted benzoyl or H, but the case that both R1 and R2 are H is excluded; R3 is H or a halogen) and is e.g. 2-(2',4'-dihydroxy-5'- benzoylphenyl)-5-chlorobenzotriazole and 2-(2'-4'-dihydroxyl-3'-benzoylphenyl)5- chlorobenzotriazole. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by reacting a benzotriazole derivative of formula II with a halogenated benzoyl derivative of formula III (wherein, R4 is H, a halogen, hydroxyl or the like; and X is a halogen). |
