PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a textile with permanent press characteristics and to improve washing, abrasion resistance and wrinkle resistance by applying an aqueous solution of a specific polysaccharide aldehyde to a textile containing a cellulose fiber and treating the textile under specified conditions. SOLUTION: A textile containing a cellulose fiber is treated with an aqueous solution of a polysaccharide aldehyde formulas I to III [Sacch-O is a polysaccharide molecule; R is a (CH2)n ((n) is 0-22) or a bifunctional aromatic group; R1, R6 and R7 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl, an aryl or the like; R2, R5 and R8 are each a (CH2) ((n) is 1-6; R3 and R4 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl; Y is an anion] having pH 1-8. The textile is heated at a temperature enough and for a time enough to react the polysaccharide aldehyde with the textile, to remove water from the textile and to provide the textile with permanent press characteristics. Preferably the polysaccharide aldehyde contains one or more cationic substituent groups subjected to a covalent bond with the polysaccharide. |
