PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain new optically active 1-trialkylsylyl alcohol derivatives useful as a liquid crystal material and a liquid crystal composition including the compound as a component is capable of reducing the electric field strength to transfer from an antiferroelectric state to a ferroelectric state. SOLUTION: The compound is expressed by formula I (R1 is an 1-20C alkyl, alkenyl or the like; difunctional cyclic group A to C are each formula II, III or the like; X to Z are each -O-, a single bond or the like; R2 is an 1-20C alkyl; R3 to R5 are each an 1-5C alkyl; and (n) and (m) are each 0 or 1), for example 1-trimethylsilylheptyl 4-(4'-octyloxybiphenyl-4-carbonyloxy)-benzoate. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting the compound expressed by formula IV (Z' is a halogen, OH or the like) which is to be a skeleton of liquid crystal, and the optically active alcohol of the formula V. The compound of formula V is obtained, for example, reacting trialkylsilyl methanol and 1-alkyne and serially carrying out an oxidation and an asymmetric reduction after the reaction.
