PURPOSE: A setting device is provided to reduce the cost and to accurately place an elevator cage in the position where the sills of a platform and the elevator cage are on the same face. CONSTITUTION: An on and off combination of detectors(35A,35B,35C) is changed from T11 to T14 when the sills of a platform and an elevator cage are placed on the same face while the elevator cage is descending. Also, the combination of the detectors is changed from T21 to T24 when the sills are placed on the same face while the elevator cage is ascending. Therefore, the sensors detect the change of the combination so as to use information about the relation of the sill position for controlling drive and safely traveling an elevator.
